Communications Strategist

Seeking a communications strategist with experience in strategic communications, outreach and public relations. Candidates with a background in writing and communications planning with an emphasis on Web communications and Social Media, stakeholder communications, messaging, creative product development, communication outreach and execution are strongly encouraged to apply. An ideal candidate would have extensive experience in supporting large companies, DoD and or other government organizations. Seven years minimum experience with a successful track record of increased responsibility. Experience with senior executives and management at all levels and advanced strategic thinking and planning, strong oral and written communication skills and problem-solving skills are required. An undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, marketing or similar disciplines is strongly preferred.  Experience within the field of education is also preferred.

Core responsibilities:

• Will aid in the development of a broad-range of communication strategies, outreach programs, plans, message management processes, and initiatives and outreach activities that effectively educate, inform, and build relationships with targeted stakeholder groups
• Develops and executes communications strategies that support identified communication goals; identify needs, objectives and design approaches; develop schedules and budgets as required for each project
• Develops and executes communication strategy planning and message management functions that drive communication service and product development / delivery activities
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with established internal and external sources of DoD media – locally, regionally and nationally.
• Manages public relations programs in the media and target markets including working with public relations agency and media to ensure media coverage
• Drives and manages websites including Social Media and mainstream outreach – creating and managing content
• Provide communications support as needed to events and internal communications
• Perform other duties as required

Expectations:

The individual must be an experienced professional who is proactive and results-oriented, with solid relational skills, must be detailed oriented with the ability to multi-task and demonstrated experience interfacing with senior executives and all levels of management.

Advanced strategic thinking and planning, advanced oral and written communication skills, and advanced problem-solving skills are required.

The individual must possess strong presentation skills.

Education and experiences:

BA or BS in communications, public relations, marketing or similar disciplines, Five years of directly related experience in DoD, particularly Army.

Clearance: 

Must have a secret clearance with the ability to obtain a top secret clearance.
