The Challenge
Vision Systems International (VSI) was formed in 1996 by Rockwell Collins and Elbit Systems of America to provide the most advanced Helmet Mounted Display Systems (HMDS) for tactical aircraft at the lowest possible risk and cost. VSI’s systems are currently on the F/A-18, F-15, F-16 and the F-35. In addition, VSI’s Joint helmet mounted Cueing Systems have been selected by over 20 international air forces and are in use around the world. Currently, VSI leads the industry in innovation and technical development and has the only combat-proven helmet mounted displays and developed the “look and shoot” cueing system—from concept to reality.
JANSON was selected to integrate VSI’s internal communication structure, crisis communication procedures, corporate messaging and a communications strategy to include media relations support prepare VSI for an external outreach education campaign.
Approach
A thorough stakeholder and competitive evaluation was completed and reviewed with the client followed by messaging and executing out on a Communication Strategy to include Collateral Material, Photo Shoots, Messaging, Website Creative Direction, a Media Buy Plan, Ad Creation, Social Media Implementation, etc.
Results
VSI is operating more efficiently and is prepared for external outreach as well as any crisis management situation that may arise. Relationships between parent companies and partners have been strengthened resulting in additional opportunities to educate target audiences regarding VSI’s vision and mission.
- VSI is advertising in targeted publications that reach key stakeholders. Further, messaging is being integrated into strategic communications efforts which include national and international trade shows and air shows.
- According to a recent article in Defense Security International, VSI is giving fighter pilots a combat advantage that other companies have not.
- There have been over 45 media engagements in the last year involving local, national and international requests.
- The website collects public inquires daily which are then emailed to the President of VSI for the purpose of stakeholder engagement.
- VSI’s social media launch has open conversation to over 350 followers on Facebook and Twitter. Within a 6 month period from launch date inspired over 2,500 impressions with targeted hash tags.
